The Space
Captain’s Deck Seafront Apartment occupies the first floor of the Red Gables, a Grade II listed building that was built in 1855.

Upon entering the apartment itself, you will enter the ‘Balcony Access Lounge’ with its glazed door leading to a private balcony with amazing sea views.

The balcony at Captain’s Deck Seafront Apartment is a stunning and unique feature of the apartment. It has a secure glazed balustrade so that you can enjoy uninterrupted views of Marine Parade, the Victorian Pier, Huntcliff Nature Reserve, the constantly moving weather, and of the eight miles of beautiful beach.

BALCONY
The balcony has comfortable dining furniture so that you can watch the world go by whilst enjoying a coffee, glass of wine, or an alfresco dinner in those warmer months.

LIVING AREA
The living area at Captain’s Deck Seafront Apartment has comfortable velvet sofas and cushions so that you can enjoy an evening in front of the large flat-screen TV watching your favourite shows or perhaps a DVD. There is also an Echo Dot speaker if you fancy listening to some music or you’re after a weather update.

In the bay window, you’ll find what is probably Captain’s Deck Seafront Apartment's most stunning feature. Featuring four velvet swivel chairs, you can take in the stunning views of the seafront, the cliffs to the right, the beach and endless sea views to all sides. Binoculars are provided so that you can take a closer look at the world going by, sea life, and the constantly moving boats and ships. There is always something new to see in Saltburn, and this is the perfect warm space to enjoy it.

KITCHEN
The Captain’s Deck Seafront Apartment's kitchen provides a first class facility for self-catering. With a superb white marble dining table and comfortable velvet dining chairs for six guests, there is also an electric range oven with five induction hobs, along with a kettle, luxury six-slice toaster, and a high-end Nespresso Coffee machine. Added bonuses include a dishwasher and washer/dryer for guest convenience and comfort. Guests can immerse themselves in the atmosphere of a luxurious holiday at the coast with nautically themed dinnerware, silver goblets, and mugs.

BEDROOM AND BATHROOM
The master ensuite bedroom is a large, sea facing room with amazing views down onto Marine Parade and sea views from the stunning bay window. Accommodating up to two adults, there are velvet curtains and a velvet tub chair with a table for guests to relax next to the sea facing bay window with that extra bit of privacy. The king size bed has plush velvet headboard, an ultra-comfortable mattress, two sumptuous pillows for each guest, and numerous velvet cushions. The bedroom also has large built-in wardrobes with plenty of hangers, and there is also a dressing table and chair, large mirror and hair dryer in the bedroom.

The ensuite bathroom has a lovely marble theme with a stone-based shower with rainfall head and body jets, a marble topped wash basin and vanity unit with feature waterfall tap, plenty of space to store toiletries and cosmetics, and a Villeroy & Boch WC.

The family suite bedroom is the larger of the two bedrooms, and like the master bedroom, has large windows, both of which provide stunning views of Marine Parade and the beach for guests to enjoy. There are velvet curtains and two velvet tub chairs with a table for guests to relax next to the large sea facing bay window. The suite is very spacious and can accommodate up to four adults or children. The beds come in the form of two single beds that can also be made up as a king upon request, and there is also a sturdy bunk bed making it perfect for a family. There are ultra-comfortable mattresses on all beds and two comfy pillows for each guest. The bedroom has three individual mirrored wardrobes so that guests can store their clothes separately.

As with the ensuite, the main family bathroom is a lovely space with a marble theme. Features include a large deep bathtub, separate stone-based shower with rainfall head and body jets, a marble topped basin vanity unit with feature waterfall tap, and a WC.

Neighborhood
Saltburn-by-the-Sea is a wonderful seaside town that has something for all age groups. With eight miles of sandy beach, Saltburn is ideal for paddling, and swimming, and it is also renowned as the best surfing beach in the north of England.

Opened in 1869, Saltburn’s Victorian pier is the last remaining entertainment pedestrian pier in Yorkshire. A walk along the pier is a wonderful experience as you’ll have great views out to sea, and back towards the town’s upper promenade.

The lower promenade has beach huts that you can rent, and has a selection of stalls, coffee outlets, crazy golf, and slot machines.

You will enjoy some excellent restaurants in Saltburn-by-the-Sea. Coco and Rum offers an excellent Thai experience along with some great alcoholic and virgin cocktails. Number 23 on Milton Street has a great bar and offers relaxed dining. The Tomahawk Steakhouse provides a high-end experience if you want to splash-out and celebrate. Fish and chips at the famous Seaview Restaurant next to the pier is a great choice. Visit during the day for some fantastic views.

Saltburn Valley Gardens are a maze of pleasant paths and tracks with seats at frequent intervals. Refreshments, a Woodland Centre, children’s play areas and a miniature railway can all be enjoyed here.

For golfers, Saltburn is an excellent location. Saltburn Golf Club is a great course with wonderful views of the coast and inland towards Roseberry Topping. Cleveland Golf Club was established in 1887 and claims to be the only true Championship links, and the Oldest Course in the County of Yorkshire.

There are many towns and villages to explore close to Saltburn as well. Staithes is a lovely coastal village where you can explore cobbled streets and visit the Captain Cook Museum.

Whitby’s is a great choice for a day out. Here you can enjoy the atmospheric cobbled streets, climb the 199 steps to Whitby Abbey, and enjoy fish and chips at the famous Magpie Café.

Great Ayton’s green and riverfront offer a quiet day out, with a visit to Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum, and a walk to the summit of Roseberry Topping being amongst some top recommendations.

Getting Around
Captain’s Deck Seafront Apartment is located in the centre of town and within 30 minutes’ drive time of Staithes, Whitby, Middlesbrough and the North Yorkshire Moors.

Saltburn Train Station is a short walk away and has routes to Longbeck, Redcar, Middlesbrough and Darlington with connecting trains to Newcastle, York, Leeds, Manchester and London.

There are plenty of bus routes throughout Saltburn. Hop on the Arriva North East route and you can visit beautiful coastal villages like Staithes, Runswick Bay and Whitby. The Moorsbus route has drop offs at Newton Under Roseberry, Great Ayton, Stokesley and Helmsley.

Property is ideally positioned minutes from the beach and local amenities. Our second visit as the location is just spectacular… and we will be back . Had another amazing weekend despite the weather not being the best .. no sunrises and the pier shrouded in fog for hours but didn’t prevent us having a whale of a time .

Kitchen is not best equipped or laid out … step count huge just making a cup of tea .. no ovenproof tableware despite strong suggestion to landlord last year . Could do with some Pyrex dishes . Melamine crockery not the nicest to eat out of .. although themed to match the property . Toaster only had two out of 6 elements working as last year landlord going to replace ??.
Bath towels not the best and a tad small .Tap in bathroom a pain when water pressure drops ( as someone runs another tap or flushes loo) water doesn’t reach sink frustrating .
Freezer needed defrosting appreciate cleaners haven’t time when bookings are back to back … we defrosted early morning whilst out on dawn swim .
No external bins
The cleanliness and general maintenance is a huge improvement on last year and the property certainly feels more loved . Hopefully this continues external porch door needs attention struggled with key till it didn’t work on final morning .. thankfully husbands didn’t mind being woken to let us in after early morning swim. Landlord responded to text and apologised ??locksmith sorted issue .

Excellent location just above the beach
Loads of bars & restaurants a few minutes walk away.
Beautiful views from the apartment.

The taps on the sinks in the main bathroom & the on suite were awful really hard to use.
Adults & kids struggled water all over.
Needed more than one tea towel in the kitchen.
Oh & none off the windows would open in both the bedrooms so hot in a night & could do with airing during the day.

Captains Deck : We highly recommend this place with its spectacular views overlooking the sea and pier. We had no trouble parking, although it was April. The location is ideal - shops, including Sainsbury's just a few minutes away. The large apartment was lovely and clean and the beds were incredibly comfortable. There's tea bags, sugar, salt etc which is helpful on arrival. The lovely big kitchen was well-fitted, and included a cooker, new fridge, dishwasher, washer/dryer etc. (no chopping board) Beautiful lounge with settees, a huge TV and more comfortable chairs positioned to enjoy the view. There were a few minor snags . The family bathroom (wobbly toilet set) was fully fitted but the en-suite could have done with a few hooks and towel rails and we found the mirrored wardrobe difficult to open. That being said, we had a wonderful stay and we certainly will return.

The location was great, the view fantastic! The apartment was clean and spacious.

The outside of the property (garden) could do with some cleaning and grass cutting. The reception area on the ground floor should be kept tidy, and it looked like it was used as storage.

Excellent location

Kitchen lacking oven gloves, chopping boards, cafetière, trivet. Plastic plates and cups, metal ‘glasses’.
Bedroom curtains came off hooks easily but too high to replace.
Fridge door hanging.
Kerb appeal needed attention.

A superb stay! Extremely roomy, bright and the most amazing sea views! Our winter stay was superb - with cosy nights watching the storm.
Saltburn is lovely - plenty of things open in November and a real highlight of our stay in the area. Would highly recommend.

First impression wasn’t very inviting the entrance hall needed a good hoover and tidy along with the staircase up to the apartment … the carpet was newish and full of fluff, sand and dog hairs … The apartment itself is huge as shown in the wonderful pictures which show it off exceptionally well …. BUT….. Cleanliness was superficial … neither bathroom bins had been emptied and the toilet roll left in the main bathroom was wet through . The grill pan in the kitchen had no grill on it on hunting through the many empty cupboards we found it covered in grease and melted cheese … and the toaster was full of crumbs . The kitchen is well equipped with cutlery and melamine crockery ( which is not microwaveable as it absorbs the heat and becomes red hot ) but was all in keeping with the nautical theme . There are some proper mugs which were a lot nicer to drink out of .. There are plenty of utensils and an odd assortment of pans .. compared to other properties we’ve stayed in the provision to self cater was limited … I wouldn’t have wanted to try and cook a roast there . The kickboards under the cupboards are missing and as reported previously the fridge door is missing the milk / bottle storage and frightens you death as every time you open it it drops and you think it’s going to drop off .. On the plus side there was coffee and tea and milk sachets provided or left by previous guests … however the Nespresso capsules left don’t fit the machine in the apartment. Both bedrooms are very spacious but whilst the curtains are plush and quality they are far too heavy for the rings they are on and don’t actually meet which is an issue as both are overlooked . One curtain in the en-suite bedroom was hanging by one ring and we had to struggle to rehang it … On leaving the apartment at night you can’t turn the stairwell light on at the top so had to go down two flights of stairs in the dark to the switch in the vestibule … really ??? so had to leave the light on all night ( and hope guests downstairs didn’t turn it off ) so I could go out for early run and swim with the sunrise .. The stairs down to the dustbins has a switch at the top which is hanging off and there’s no bulb in the fitting and so is the switch at the bottom so neither light worked … and the back yard wasn’t a pretty sight … but there were 3 bins none had 47B or Captains Deck on so had no idea which we should be using No recycling in evidence at all . On leaving we emptied the kitchen bin to find that the “cleaners “ had put the bin bag on top of previous guests bits which had been dropped into the bin after bag had obviously been removed … simply needed washing out … Having said all that we had an absolutely marvellous stay … and would recommend and return ( with a torch ) So easy to rectify all these issues and make the place truly amazing … especially as many had been reported previously . Our own private dance floor with seaview not many holiday let’s provide that .. Marine pub next door had fabulous group on Friday evening . Saw sunrise from the sea at the end of the pier every morning Fresh mackerel caught in Whitby for dinner Saturday Classic car and bike Hill climb on Sunday … totally fun packed weekend … from a wonderful venue just needing that last bit of TLC…

The apartment was beautiful. Clean and tidy.
Beautifully furnished. Everything you could want for an extended break away. We stayed for the weekend and loved every minute. Unfortunately, we didn't use the gorgeous balcony that much, but it would be gorgeous sat out having a few drinks on a summer evening overlooking the beautiful sea views. Thank you for a great stay. Hopefully, we will return soon.

Nothing, we loved it.

The location and the view

The flat was dirty. Clothes left by the previous guests. Skid marks on the loo. Poorly maintained. Broken fridge door. Widow handles broken or missing. Radiator coming off the wall. Damage to kitchen units. Front door handle hanging off. Overall, it needs looking after.

This property has the potential to be excellent - location is great, nice accessories, big property, comfortable beds, well stocked kitchen, views are tremendous (when it’s not blowing a gale)and the open deck is great - BUT there are some significant shortcomings.

- the kitchen cabinets need finishing, particularly the fridge door.
- the lighting in the hallway and stairway was not working
- no window in the main bedroom was openable
- the main bathroom with a step up to the showers and toilet is extremely dangerous and needs hi-lighting . Night time bathroom trips could be dangerous!
- the door handle on the main entry door was loose
- there were no operating manuals for the appliances
- the entrance gate sticks and makes it difficult to gain access
- the heated towel rail does not operate independently of the overall heating system
- insufficient number of power sockets in the bedrooms
- the main entrance door to the apartment complex was frequently left unlocked raising security issues

We had a lot of heavy rain and the decorative coving fell off the wall as water penetrated in to the apartment. There was further evidence of water ingress through the walls below the living room windows.

All of the windows,(some cracked or broken) , doors, need to be replaced. There were mole spores on the walls beneath them where damp and rain is coming through.

Could be really good but more work needs to be done.

The location is excellent. There’s everything you need during your stay. There’s plenty of places to eat locally. I recommend walking to Marske-by-the-sea on the beach. The outside seating area is very comfortable and has great views out to sea.

Lovely apartment with a spectacular seafront view! Very close to the Saltburn tramway or step access to the beach, seafront restaurants, pier and amusement arcade. Short walk from the train station. The apartment was clean, spacious and everything we expected and more. We loved being able to either sit in the kitchen, the sofa, the chairs looking out at sea, or on the patio.

Outstanding space, location, and views in the fabulous town ot Saltburn. There were some minor issues with the cleaning, and some of the equipment was needing of some TLC. But Host&Stay were responsive and reachable even on a weekend. We were just two people, but it can sleep 6, so I am giving it 5 stars for vallue and views.

Property location is fabulous and beautifully decorated. Beds are super comfy!!

It’s a little dated and run down. Cupboards and fridge door felt like they could fall off at any moment!

A lot of dog hair on the carpet!

The size and natural light were great. Lots of seating indoors and out. Great to have a little outside space to sit. Large rooms. Comfy bed. Large kitchen and dining area. Amazing sea view with large bay window and seating. Would definitely return

Whilst there were loads of plates and bowls, these were all plastic (really nice ones though) and not suitable for microwave use which was an issue as wanted to reheat some food we’d made the previous night and no other suitable microwaveable containers.

Great location. A lovely flat. Roomy, spacious, comfortable and amazing sea views. The Elvis Impersonator in the nearby pub was an added bonus. They also serve an excellent pint of Cameron's Strongarm. Rapps Cafe nearby serve a great breakfast too. The flat is a handy location for trains into Teesside as well. Highly recommended.

13/04/2023

The location was incredible, providing a panoramic view of the sea, beach, pier and cliffs, which was truly stunning. The owners really play to this strength and have created multiple seating areas, perfect for indulging in the view, including the living room, both bedrooms and an exterior balcony, all with comfortable and stylish seats.

The decor and furniture are very high end and the apartment has wonderful high ceilings and period features.

It was perfect for a family of 5, with bunk beds and a large double in one room that accommodated 3 kids comfortably and a separate large double bedroom with ensuite for the adults

The fact that this property is pet friendly, while maintaining such luxury is fantastic

Some of the fittings were a little tired around the edges. Multiple kitchen plinths and doors were either loose or badly fitted. The bathroom suites are nice, but again there are some rough edges, exposed pipes and vents filled with expanding foam.

Kevin

26/03/2023

Great location and views. The apartment has plenty of room for 6 guests and is well presented

14/03/2023

The apartment is absolutely massive with a gorgeous space and huge windows to sit and watch the sea view and the location is perfect!

There was no microwave which was hard as we have a toddler so warming up his milk and food was abit of a pain using the stove.
We were also told there would be a high chair but I couldn’t find it anywhere.

There were no mirrors in the bathrooms which was strange and the shower in the en suite was impossible to get a shower in it was either red hot or freezing.

Jason

13/03/2023

The apartment is huge, plenty of space and very luxurious. The location was excellent for all the restaurants, bars and shops. You cannot hear the street or traffic noise. The kitchen has every appliance you need including washing up liquid, tea towels, bin bags etc. Plenty of bathroom towels are provided and sufficient toiletries. Nice having the outdoor balcony space with lovely views. Although there isn't allocated parking, this wasn't a problem for us as we managed to get parked outside.

The front entrance to the apartments was really off putting, with some cushions and a mop and bucket, not really very welcoming. There aren't any leaflets on the nearby area, maybe this is something that can be provided in the the entrance instead. There are no fire exit instructions in the property at all which we found very unusual, also didn't spot a carbon monoxide alarm. We assumed the fire exit was the back stairs one flight down, which was littered with rubbish and had light switches hanging off the walls. We personally would prefer blinds or curtains at the kitchen and living room windows. The views out the front living room are lovely, but it would be nice for privacy to shut some blinds. Same for the kitchen window, except the view which is an unkept back yard. The fridge needs some attention as it was catching slightly when opening the door. Also, a mirror is needed in at least one of the two bathrooms to allow for shaving etc etc. It would also be useful to have some instructions in the kitchen on how to use some of the appliances, for example the coffee machine.
The biggest downside for us was the noise at night from the ensuite bathroom vent. It kept flapping (outside cover we think) which made an intermittent noise. Also, we couldn't get the ensuite shower to work , it was either way too hot or too cold. The tap in the ensuite also had an issue with water pressure.
We also had an unexpected visitor on the friday evening, a lady let herself in with a set of keys saying they had been left in her key safe.

It might sound like a long list of negatives but they were only small things that can easily be rectified and overall we had a really lovely time.

Mandy

we had a lovely stay, views of the sea lovely, I can see a lot of thought has gone into making the place look nice, would definitely stay again

On Airbnb this apt looked stunning.
This apt is in a great location and has a great view out to sea. It is very spacious and well laid out. It was warm inside and inviting but the disappointing thing is it is let down by its cleanliness and maintenance.
Outside the entrance to the building were bags of rubbish or dirty laundry. Furniture was also abandoned alongside the rubbish. As we entered the hallway the lights did not work. The hallway carpet was in desperate need of a hoover.
Inside the apt the extractor was greasy and covered in dust. The Sky box and other boxes under the TV were thick with dust. Kick boards under the kitchen units were not fitted well so were either hanging off or laid down. The fridge was not clean and when you opened it you thought the door was going to come off. The loft hatch was not closed properly. One of the taps in the bathroom spewed water across the sink top and onto the floor if you didn't get the flow right.
So we have mixed feelings having left.

Hannah

19/02/2023

The view from this apartment is WOW, and the flat is roomy and bright.
Sadly our stay was marred by faulty fans making loud noises which meant uninterrupted sleep was very difficult. We would have appreciated better communication and a more relaxing time on our holiday.
